Greater CommunityItems can be listed for up to 3 weeks Odonata Ecovillage, Cohousing Opportunity: Dear friends, Over the years I have met many people drawn to living in a land-based community/ecovillage; fostering cooperation, simplicity, stewardship of land & a way of life that is harmonious and respectful - those who share this dream of community know the values I speak of and more. But, how do we make it a reality? Finding suitable, affordable land is a challenge. Odonata Ecovillage Initiative has moved its land-search efforts to Maine, and found land prices there more reasonable. Our small core group is currently considering 111 acres in Topsham that look very promising. While we move forward with site evaluations and investigation, it is time to also gather the people and resources that will be needed to start actualizing a "village". It comes down to very practical steps forward if we want the chance to live into this dream. I want to take the steps, and I invite you to see if you may want to as well. Please join us at the site - 300 Meadow Cross Road in Topsham, Maine on Saturday, March 2nd at 2 PM for a tour of the land. Amy Segal, a landscape architect who helped design the site plan for Two Echo cohousing in Brunswick, will also be there to give us an overview of some of the help she could lend to the site design and permitting process. She is a wonderful person with valuable expertise. Those who would like to, are invited to meet afterwards at the Frontier Cafe in Brunswick, about 10 minutes from the property, to share questions/discussion together (and some yummy food). This is a rural site, just a short drive to the amenities of Brunswick (arts, cinema, Bowdoin College, cafes and a great farmer's market) and 1/2 hour to Portland. For those who would like to have more Nature around them, gardens, orchards, chickens or other animals (sheep for wool?), it is a wonderful location for those purposes and the land has a very peaceful quality. You need to see it for the possibilities to start buzzing!! Come with an open mind! A Weekend Retreat with Chris Pleim: Maine Arts Camp is a small, non-competitive camp community of about 80-100 campers and 30 staff, located on the campus of Unity College, in Unity, Maine. Our camp is geared toward creative kids/teens, with extensive offerings in the visual arts, along with theater, dance, music, photography, videography, robotics, culinary arts and individual sports. We have a lot of teachers on staff, so the level of instruction is quite high. Our focus is also on each camper being accepted as part of our inclusive camp community. Maine Arts Camp is still very much a camp, with camp songs, fun evening activities, and lots of time for campers to bond and make lifelong friendships. Two 2 week sessions, along with an add on week at the end of the summer.
