"GO FOR BAROQUE....IS BACH!" Race director Nancy Roderick is announcing that the Coastal Youth Orchestra 5K and Fun Run, “Go for Baroque....out and Bach” is scheduled to be held on Sunday April 28th on Pennellville Road in Brunswick. The 5K course is an out and back run and is generally flat and very scenic. The race starts at the intersection of Old Pennellville and Pennellville Roads, taking Pennellville Road to a right onto Pennel Way, left onto Simpson Pt. Road to the end and return to the start. Merriconeag's own Jack Pierce holds the course record!
      The race is being held by the Coastal Youth Orchestra and will benefit the organization’s programs and it’s summer music camp scholarship fund. CYO musicians will play music along the course. Last year’s race had more than 80 runners.
      Race fees are $25 for the 5K ($20 for students 18 and under). The first 100 runners to register will receive a T-shirt. Registration fee for the Fun Run is $10, or $20 including a T-shirt.
      The one mile Fun Run will start at 9AM and the 5K will follow at 9:30. Parking is available along the soccer field on Pennellville Road. Race day registration and packet pickup will start at 7:30 a.m.
      Prizes will be awarded in several categories. Small Group Art Lessons for Young People:
May Art Block: Silk Screen Printmaking, Monday’s from 3:30-5:00, May 6th through June 3rd (no class on Memorial Day). Children will learn how to draw, create a stencil and print their own designs using silk screen techniques. Designs will first be printed on paper with our final project being a silk screened t-shirt. COST: $100. Registration and a deposit of half the course fee before April 29th. Class size is limited to five students and home studio is located on Torrey Hill Range Road in Freeport.

The Heart of Warriorship Kyudo: The Way of The Bow
Summer Classes begin Thursday April 18, 5 – 7 p.m.
Originally the most important weapon in the Samurai’s arsenal, the Japanese Bow, or Yumi, was perfected as a battlefield weapon in 16th Century Japan. After the introduction of the arquebus in the late 1600’s the teachings of Archery became a highly refined form of Budo – or martial art.
Classes are held every Thursday evening from 5- 7pm and Saturday Morning from 10 – 12 noon at the Dzogchen Meditation Center in West Bath, ME (check our website for directions) Tashi Armstrong, Sensei, is a Kyudo Instructor of the Heki Ryu Chikurin-ha School of Kyudo. Tashi has been a student of Kyudo since 1987. He received his Instructor’s certificate in 2000.  Click here for poster.  (04/09)

Holistic Treatment of Common Childhood Ailments: An Evening for Parents: Please join Ashwood’s school physician, Daniel Einstein, MD on Tuesday, May 14 from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. for a talk on holistic therapies for common childhood illnesses, including colds, sleep disturbances, stomach troubles, allergies and ADHD. Dr. Einstein will also give a brief overview of Rudolf Steiner’s approach to medical care—known as anthroposophic medicine—especially as it applies to children. There will be a question and answer session to follow. The talk will take place in the Grade School building at Ashwood Waldorf School, 180 Park Street, Rockport, ME 04856.
